Won Yang.
Virtual Production Technician
Profile
VP system engineer who has built three LED volumes (Kantana, Daejeon Cube, Sejong) and run Netflix and Amazon productions on them, including the HDR pipeline that let Hellbound 2 sign off color on set. Debugs the whole chain alone, from media server and tracking to sync and color, and writes the tools the stage is missing (UE5 C++ plugin, Blender add-on). Four years in Korea; now at NYU Tisch for an MPS in Virtual Production.
Experience
VP System Engineer · Daejeon Cube Studio (KOCCA), via XON Studio
2025.08 — 2026.07 · Daejeon, Korea
Government-funded stage; XON Studio held the operating contract and placed me on site full time
- Joined the build of the largest LED studio in Korea (23K wide, 8 m tall): redesigned network routing, authored custom EDIDs and recalibrated OptiTrack and EzTrack tracking.
- Brought up the first SMPTE-timecode Pixera system on a 100G backbone in Korea and kept it stable in production.
- Operated and maintained the stage across four productions with an Alexa 35 and Signature Prime package.
VP Technician · XON Studio
2025.08 — 2026.07 · Seoul, Korea
Same period as the Cube Studio placement above; XON projects outside that contract
- Agent Kim Reactivated (SBS drama, webtoon adaptation): ran the driving-scene shoots on the LED stage. The action-heavy scenes needed plates the standard setup could not capture, so I designed a new capture rig for plate acquisition and shot the sequences with it.
- Sejong University AI Media Lab: built the first VP stage at a Korean university by re-deploying the equipment from XON’s own stage. Owned the Disguise setup and stabilization and the stage system as a whole.
VP Technician · Dexter Studios (D1 Studio)
2022.05 — 2025.07 · Seoul, Korea
- Hellbound 2 (Netflix): built the HDR color pipeline (P3-PQ, Rec.2020) with Calman captures and 3D LUT Creator LUTs on Brompton Tessera, matching Alexa Mini LF and Alexa 35 so HDR sign-off moved from post to the stage.
- Butterfly (Prime Video): driving-plate supervisor for four vehicles. Pre-validated angles and reflections in UE5 techviz and ran a three-camera Disguise MR Set, delivering 70+ shots in one day without reshoots.
- Kantana Studio (Thailand): designed and installed the LED system, integrated Disguise, Brompton and stYpe tracking with Genlock/LTC sync, trained a local crew of about 30 over two weeks and led the launch demo shoot.
Camera Assistant · Freelance
2020 — 2022 · Seoul, Korea
- Third AC on drama, commercial and music video sets: rigging, lens and media support, continuity, and on-set troubleshooting under tight schedules.
